Ten Ways to Invest in Yourself to Have a Better Quality of Life

Investing in yourself is one of the best ways you can achieve a better quality of life.   Here are ten ways to invest in yourself, you are worth it!

1. Obtain formal training for a career, for example attend a vocational school or college so that you can market yourself better on the job market to have a job you enjoy and can support yourself and your family.

2. Teach yourself a new skill that can help you in some way.  For example, learn how to fix something at your home that you would otherwise have to pay someone else to do, keeping more money in your pocket.
Or, it could be mean learning a marketable skill that allows you to change your career to improve your quality of life or enhance your earnings in your current career or for a side hustle.

3. Take care of yourself.  Eat healthy foods, get some regular exercise, don't engage in activities that have a high likelihood of causing you harm, see your physician.

4. Develop a financial plan, try to be frugal in your spending, save money for emergencies, save for your anticipated expenses and invest for your retirement.

5. You are your biggest asset.  Just like you would have insurance to protect your other assets, such as for your car or your house, it's a good idea to have disability insurance in case something unexpected happens and you can't work and to have health insurance so you can afford to have your medical needs addressed.

6.  Time is not infinite.  Often work or other aspects of life will try to impose demands.  Learn that it's ok to say no to some of the requests.  If you don't say no to some of these demands you will never have time to focus on what you want to achieve.

7. Every day try to do some reading rather than watching television.  Keep a list of recommended books from people you meet. Listen to audio books from the library or audible when you are driving or doing some of your chores.

8. Share your knowledge.  Teach someone something, this will be mutually beneficial, the learner will appreciate your help and if you can articulate an idea well enough to explain it to someone else so they understand it, this will help you to consolidate your knowledge and help you remember it, too.

9. I read a quote that I liked, "Happiness is spending time with the people you love and who love you."  Put energy into relationships you want to build/sustain.  Feeling connected to others will benefit your mental health and help you put setbacks in perspective.  Be interested in people you meet and you will be make new friends and learn about the amazing lives of others.

10. Remain curious about the amazing world we live in!  If you hear about a place that intrigues you, read about it, maybe one day you can even visit it.  If you come across a word you don't know while reading, look it up.  Consider doing Rosetta Stone to learn another language or joining a club to practice conversation in a second language.
